Bars and restaurants overlooking the city

In any city where you are visiting, enjoying the late afternoon, having lunch or dinner with a view of the tourist attractions is always special. And that’s why, when I landed in the Greek capital, I soon tried to get to know some of the best rooftops in athens.

Even though I stayed only three days in the city, I managed to visit five of them. The ones I liked the most, of course, were the ones overlooking the incredible Acropolis. And the good thing is that there are options for all budgets and tastes, whether in a happy hour at sunset or for a more romantic dinner.

Of the rooftops in Athens that I visited, this was the one I liked the most. The atmosphere is very young and lively in the late afternoon and calmer when night falls. The view of the Acropolis is breathtaking, as is the Monastiraki district, from where you can see much of the historic region.

Who is looking for a quieter moment than in the crowded happy hour, you can have lunch or dinner there too. The prices aren’t the lowest, but the view makes up for it. At least entry is free!

This rooftop is on the roof of a hotel, but is open to the public. As it is close to the 360º, the view is practically the same, also jaw-dropping. There are outdoor tables and an air-conditioned covered area.

The penthouse of the hotel where I stayed, the Melia Athens, also has a beautiful rooftop poolside and open to the public. The atmosphere here is less funky, perfect for a more romantic dinner. The pool and music give a special charm to the environment.

This restaurant is not really a rooftop, but it has an almost 360º view of Athens, as it is at the top of Mount Lycabettus, the highest in the city. The atmosphere is more informal at lunch and a little more elegant at dinner. To get there, the best (and most fun) way is to take the funicular. You can find out all about this tour in a another post that we have already published!
