That’s considering that the best program in Parisis perhaps precisely walkaround the city, that is, wandering aimlessly and without a checklist of places to visit in the city.

But let’s be honest. No one wants to come back from Paris or from a European tour without having seen the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame(unfortunately after the accident, we will follow up on how the reconstruction will go) or the Mona Lisa at the Museum of the Louvre, despite the multitude of tourists who frequent these places.

The clichés of Paris did not become famous for nothing. These are impressive places that travelers cannot pass up.

Top 10 Best Sights in Paris

In this article you will find:

Paris is one of the most beautiful and cinematic cities in the world.

Every year more than 900 film productions are filmed there. But even if you’re not a filmmaker, there’s so much to do in Paris that travelers soon need to make a list of priorities.

Actually, the city enchants for the whole work, not for this or that tourist spot.

The River Seine and the Eiffel Tower, two Paris classics

Of course the Eiffel Tower is wonderful, or walking along the River Seine is charming, or there you can find some of the best museums in the world. But the pleasure of wandering aimlessly around the city, just for the pleasure of wandering the streets of Paris (also known as walking around Paris), seems to be one of its main charms.

Then alternate your time in Paris between visiting the main and best tourist attractions, which we will identify here, and also take some free time to be surprisedby the city that only you will know.

Our Paris travel itinerary

This Paris trip was part of an itinerary in France and Italy in which we visited the locations of 10 super famous travel films and inspiring. In addition, the cinematographic inspirations of Paris are numerous, but for this trip we decided to highlight “The Fabulous Destination of Amélie Poulain”, “Midnight in Paris” and “Before Sunset”, all charming films.

“The Fabulous Destination of Amélie Poulain” was one of the films that inspired our Paris travel itinerary

It was really cool to have visited some of the locations of these films and also to use this inspiration as a guide for our trip.

  • The film “The Fabulous Destination of Amélie Poulain“, by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starring the dear Audrey Tautou, most of the locations were filmed in the charming neighborhood of Montmartre, which we chose as a base for this visit to Paris (tour on the 4th).
  • The locations of the movie “Midnight in Paris“by Woody Allen is a true tourist guide for Paris and surroundings. From Monet’s Gardens in Giverny (one of the most beautiful places we’ve visited, but in the cinema everything seems more empty and peaceful), to the Château de Versailles, locations still include the Rodin Museum and the Orangerie Museum.
  • It was difficult to choose just 3 travel films to explore Paris, and the last on the list was the delightful “Before Sunset“, directed by Richard Linklater. In the film, the characters of Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke meet again in Paris (at the Shakespeare and Company bookstore, which is close to Notre Dame) and go out talking and philosophizing about life on the streets. The true spirit of the city: wandering aimlessly through the city. But the highlight of the film is a boat ride, just at sunset, along the waters of the River Seine.

Car Rental

If you need to rent a car, we recommend the services of Rentcars. It’s like Avenida Paulista in Paris.

  • At the end of your walk, towards the Louvre Museum, you’ll find the Grand Palaisand Petit Palais(the Petit Palais has free admission). The two are opposite each other.
  • Cross the Ponte Alexandre III(my favorite bridge in Paris) and visit the Invalides region and Dôme( golden dome that you immediately see as you cross the bridge).Look out for all the golden details of these fascinating places. The bridge is the location of the last scene of the movie “Midnight in Paris”.
  • The Hôtel des Invalidesis a large building that houses the Museum de l’Arméeinside you.Admission also includes a visit to Napoleon’s tomb, which is a must.
  • Right next door is the Museum Rodin, one of the best museums in Paris. In the garden, several works by this famous sculptor.

    Eiffel Tower

    • From there, it’s worth the walk to the Campo de Marte.
    • Have a picnic or just relax on the Champs de Mars, overlooking the Eiffel Tower.
    • You can see how the queue goes up.Try to go up the Eiffel Towerin the late afternoon, to catch a little bit of the day and the dusk up there. If you don’t have time to visit on that day, the 3rd is also a day where you can fit in the visit.

Tip:This is an itinerary to do on sunny days and open weather. If the day is bad, switch to the day 2 Paris itinerary, which is more museum-focused.Be prepared to make these small changes depending on the weather.

Day 2 – Paris: Museums and Sunset on the River Seine

On the banks of the River Seine and its bridges, there are several incredible places to photograph the sunset in Paris

    Metro Station:Louvre-Rivoli

    • In the morning, relax and explore the Museum of the Louvre. The museum takes a whole day to visit, but I confess that after a few hours I can’t assimilate anything else.So allow 2 to 3 hours to walk around the museum, without pretending to see everything.
    • Then take some time to rest or have lunch in the Gardens of Tuileries.
    • In the afternoon, go to the Museum de l’Orangerie(it’s very close to the Louvre and the Tuileries).Get inspired by the works of Monet and other Impressionists. This is one of the locations of the movie “Midnight in Paris”.Also, people say it’s nice to go to Monet’s Gardens first, but I think the order doesn’t matter.
    • To see the museums of Paris, we recommend buying the Museum Pass. All the main museums in Paris are included and you can purchase for a period of 2 days, 4 days or 6 consecutive days, according to your travel itinerary.

Tip:In the late afternoon of this Paris itinerary, go to the River Seine and watch the sunset from there (hope the weather helps). The cool thing about Paris is that the River Seine is a constant presence in the city, and can be accessed from several points. So you can end up there for several days to see the sunset.

A late afternoon boat ride is a must-see in Paris

Museum d’Orsay and Ile de la Cité

Metro Station:Solferino or RER – line C, Museé d’Orsay station

    • On that day, our Paris itinerary runs along the River Seine. The museum is wonderful and was originally a railway station. So it’s worth it for the collection and architecture.
    • From there, it’s worth walking to Ile de la Cité(an island in the middle of the River Seine) and visiting the Conciergerie, Sainte-Chapelle(a small church with wonderful stained glass windows) and Notre-Dame Cathedral(after the accident, unfortunately it will not be possible to visit it, but you can see it from afar) .

    Boat Tour

    • After take a boat tour and see it all from the River Seine. From the river, you have a different and privileged point of view of the city.Just like in the movie “Before Sunset”.
    • If the boat trip is before sundown, this Paris script is even more cinematic.

Tip:There are several boat trips on the River Seine, departing from different places.Bateaux Parisiens is one of the most famous, with departures close to the Eiffel Tower. The Batobus allows you to board and disembark at different points, working more like a Hop-On Hop-Off than a boat trip.

    • If you were unable to climb the Eiffel Tower on the first day, this is also a good day to visit.

Day 4: Marais, Latin Quarter and Montmartre

    • Two neighborhoods are among my favorites in Paris. The first is the Marais.
    • There, it’s worth starting your Paris tour at Place des Vosges (considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world), the Carnavalet Museum (free admission and tells the history of Paris, very interesting) and the city hall building (Hôtel de Ville).
    • The Center Pompidou and the Picasso Museum are also nearby.

    • Have some time left?I find it difficult, but if you have leftovers, go check out the late afternoon at Sacré-Couerand take the opportunity to stroll around the delightful Montmartre district.
    • To make the day even more cinematic, have a coffee at the Café des Deux Moulins(same as in the film by Amélie Poulain).
    • You can do this script yourself, but I recommend taking a guided tour of the neighborhood.
    • If you can’t see everything, don’t worry. If you don’t have time, relax and leave some things to check out that day, or even to return to visit some of the places from the previous days more calmly.
    • Some places are still worth a visit: Jardin de Luxembourg, Montparnasse Tower (the best view of Paris, after the Eiffel Tower itself), Opera de Garnier, Galeries Lafayette, among others.

The Hall of Mirrors in Versailles is one of the most impressive places you will visit in Paris

    • The first unmissable day trip of this Paris itinerary is to the Palace from Versailles.
    • The tour takes all day and you can do it on your own (the journey is by train and then a walk) or hire a guided bus tour to Versailles.
    • A lot of people ask if you can’t do it part-time.We also went with that hope and we didn’t make it.In addition to the palace itself, the gardens are huge and beautiful.
    • If it’s summer, there might even be some time at the end of the day for you to do some extra activity.

Exploring Monet’s gardens at Giverny is like immersing yourself in the Impressionist works of this spectacular artist

    • Giverny is a very quiet day trip from Paris. This is another of the locations of the movie “Midnight in Paris”
    • In Giverny, which is also a very charming small town, the program is to visit Monet’s House and Gardens.
    • The self-guided tour also takes virtually the entire day.But it is very likely that you will be able to return to Paris around 4 pm.
    • If you take a guided tour, you may be able to buy some time and do it part-time.

Remembering that this is only a suggested itinerary in Paris.

Once there, you’ll probably make changes and make your own script.

But if you’re organized like me, and you can’t travel without having as many things as possible, our suggestions can be a good starting point.

    10 Best Sights in Paris

    1 – Eiffel Tower

O que fazer em Paris: Roteiro Dia a Dia e Dicas de Viagem - Melhores Pontos TurísticosO que fazer em Paris: Roteiro Dia a Dia e Dicas de Viagem - Melhores Pontos Turísticos
Eiffel Tower, Paris’ sovereign tourist landmark

The Eiffel Tower is the tallest building in Paris at 324 metersand was built by the same Gustave Eiffel responsible for the Statue of Liberty in New York. For me, the best time is in the late afternoon, because then you can stretch out until dusk and watch the sunset from up there.

The Tower is also one of the sights most portrayed in cinema, and practically every film shot in Paris has some scene showing it.

One of the big clichés is people living or staying in places with a view of the Eiffel Tower. Some of the most outstanding films are “Midnight in Paris”, by Woody Allen, and the animation “Ratatouille”, by Brad Bird.

    2 – Musée d’ Orsay

O que fazer em Paris: Roteiro Dia a Dia e Dicas de Viagem - Melhores Pontos TurísticosO que fazer em Paris: Roteiro Dia a Dia e Dicas de Viagem - Melhores Pontos Turísticos
One of the most beautiful museums in Paris: the Musée d’Orsay

What most enchants the Musée d’Orsay, in addition to the wonderful collection, is the fact that the building is an old train station.

By the way, when you visit the museum, you feel like you’ve entered the movie “The Invention of Hugo Cabret”, by Martin Scorsese. The film takes place in Paris at the time of the pioneer Georges Méliès.But the station where the protagonist lives was inspired by the Gare Montparnasse (but a good part of the film was actually created using digital effects).

The construction of the d’Orsay is beautiful and the fact is even more impressive. from almost being demolished in the 70’s. Fortunately it wasn’t.

Part of the Louvre Museum’s collection migrated here, making one of the best and most beautiful museums in the world.

Among the works of art, sculptures and impressionist works are my favourites, including works by Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh.

    3 – Louvre Museum

O que fazer em Paris - Melhores Pontos TurísticosO que fazer em Paris - Melhores Pontos Turísticos

A curiosity about the building where the Museum of Louvre, is that it was initially built to be a fortress.King after king, it had its structure enlarged until it was the enormous complex of today.

It was only after the French Revolution that the space ceased to be the residence of kings and became a museum.

The Pyramid of Glass , which occupies a prominent place in the Louvre, is one of those controversial works from Paris (as the Eiffel Tower itself once was).

In the collection, the highlights are the ultra mega famous Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.Get ready to fight for space with crowds.Book at least half a day and be aware that you will only see 1/5 of the place.

The production of the film “The Da Vinci Code” (2006) with Tom Hanksgot permission to film inside the museum.Everything was done with great care (the dirty walls scenes were filmed elsewhere and for the scenes with the Mona Lisa painting, replicas were used).Filming took place outside the museum’s opening hours, ie during the night.

Beyoncé and Jay Z’s “Apeshit” video was also shot inside the museum. The museum does not comment on the amount charged to accept the recording, but the great success of the clip earned the Louvre more than 10 million visitors in 2018, a record of visitors.

With this number, the Louvre Museum has become the most visited museum in the world.

    4 – River Seine

Walk along the banks of the River Seine or take a boat tour: you choose how you prefer to enjoy this part of Paris

A ride on the Seine is one of the must-see attractions for anyone visiting Paris.

There are also boat tours, a typical tourist program, so much so that there are several companies and departure points along the river.

From the Seine you can admire several of the sights that we highlight in this list: the Louvre, the d’Orsay, Notre-Dame and Pont Alexandre III are on the banks of the Seine.

This article also reads a little more about the film “Before Sunset”, one of the films that inspired our trip.

    5 – Pont Alexandre III

Without a doubt, it is the most beautiful bridge in Parisand one of the best tourist attractions in the city.

The Alexandre III Bridge forms an ensemble built between 1896 and 1900 for the Universal Exhibition, which also includes the Grand and Petit Palais (all very close together).

The setting with the golden lanterns, angels, nymphs and golden winged horses is absolutely stunning.During the boat ride, you can also go under the bridge, which is also very exciting.

The final scene of the movie “Midnight in Paris” by Woody Allen, takes place precisely on this bridge, when the protagonist meets one of the characters with whom he shares an unusual preference: moments of rain.Glad it didn’t rain during our visit there.

    6 – Sainte-Chapelle

Considered one of the most beautiful churches in the world, this is a tourist attraction in Paris that cannot be left out of your list.

Like the Notre-Dame Cathedral, they are located on an island in the middle of the River Seine, the Ilé de La Cité.There are 15 15-meter stained glass windows depicting 1,000 religious scenes (among them the Holy Supper). What really enchants is the spectacle of colors and lights caused by the stained glass windows. Before reaching the chapel, pay attention to the Lower Chapel: the blue ceiling with stars always enchants me.

    7 – Notre-Dame Cathedral

O que fazer em Paris: Roteiro Dia a Dia e Dicas de Viagem - Melhores Pontos TurísticosO que fazer em Paris: Roteiro Dia a Dia e Dicas de Viagem - Melhores Pontos Turísticos

Together with the Eiffel Tower, we are talking about one of the most famous and symbolic sights in Paris. It took 170 years of construction, from 1163 to 1330. It’s impossible not to remember works like “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame”, especially for those who visit the towers and get very close to the gargoyles. In addition to the interior, it is also worth checking out the charming Square du Jean XXIII, which is at the back of the church.

“The Hunchback of Notre-Dame”, inspired by the novel by Victor Hugo, it has had several versions for the cinema (1923, 1939, 1956), but the one we will highlight here is the beautiful animation by Disney (1996), whose scenes are very close to the original church.

    8 – Basilica of Sacré-Couer

O que fazer em Paris: Roteiro Dia a Dia e Dicas de Viagem - Melhores Pontos TurísticosO que fazer em Paris: Roteiro Dia a Dia e Dicas de Viagem - Melhores Pontos Turísticos

The top of the oval dome the Sacré-Couer is the second highest point in Paris, second only to the Eiffel Tower.Anyway, for us it was worth the fact that the place is the location of one of the movies that inspired our trip. The film “The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain” and the beautiful facade, of Roman-Byzantine influence. And since you’ve come this far, a stroll through the Montmartre district is essential.

    9 – Musée de l’Orangerie

O que fazer em Paris: Roteiro Dia a Dia e Dicas de Viagem - Melhores Pontos TurísticosO que fazer em Paris: Roteiro Dia a Dia e Dicas de Viagem - Melhores Pontos Turísticos

A visit to the sights of Paris is closely linked to the painter Monetand the Musée de l’Orangerie, the best museum to see the author’s works(we were also at Marmottan, which is quite comprehensive). That’s where the impressive Nymphéas are, painted in Monet’s gardens in Giverny.

As we didn’t include Giverny here (which I also think is a must-see, although outside Paris), here’s a tip for do this double of Monet’s gardens live and Monet’s gardens through the paintings in this museum. But the collection is surprising for being beyond Monet’s Nymphéas: it also includes Renoir, Picasso and Cézanne.

The museum is also depicted in scenes from the film “Midnight in Paris”.

    10 – Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Élysées area is one of the busiest in Paris. So if so many tourists, you won’t be left out, right? But obviously, you don’t go just because of that. The Arc de Triomphe is one of the most emblematic points of the city.So much so that it is the meeting point of several of Paris’ main avenues(there are 12 avenues that lead to Charles de Gaulle Square). It is worth going up and seeing the view from the top of its 50 meters high, although it is not an unmissable program.

Where to Stay in Paris: Hotel Tips

Choosing a hotel in Paris and where to stay is always a question. The main question may be choosing which neighborhood to stay in.So, before traveling, we looked for some good, beautiful and cheap hotel tips.

We have already stayed in a hotel in the Marais district (very charming and central), a hotel in Bastille (in the cheaper as it is farther from the center) and now in a hotel in the Montmartre district (which we love). The first time I was in Paris I stayed in a hostel.

Here are some tips and how our experiences were in these accommodations.

We made reservations each time from the hotel through Booking.com, which always helps us to consult tips, opinions from other guests, prices, availability and also other relevant information.

Tips for Finding the Best Accommodation

    • Book at least 3 months in advance. If you book too late, the best hotels will already be booked.Close to summer (May to September), start researching even further in advance.
    • If you want to save money, make your accommodation more flexible. The most important thing is to be close to a metro station.
    • But also try not to stay in neighborhoods that are too far from the center.Distance can mean not very pleasant neighborhoods.Trust me: the neighborhood you’re staying in greatly influences your opinion of the city.
    • When booking, you can choose prices with or without breakfast. For those who are going to stay for a long time, it can be a good option to change and get to know restaurants in the surroundings of your hotel.Again, for those looking to save money, buying natural sandwiches and other items at the supermarket is also an option.
    • Another criterion is to check the hotel’s rating, either on Booking.comor on TripAdvisor.Ratings based on a small number of users may not be very reliable.

1 – Hotel Le Relais Saint Honoré – Louvre Museum

Roteiro em Paris: Dicas de Viagem para 3, 5 ou 7 dias - Onde FicarRoteiro em Paris: Dicas de Viagem para 3, 5 ou 7 dias - Onde Ficar

Who doesn’t dream of staying close to the main tourist attractions in Paris.Hotel Le Relais Saint Honoré is very close to the Louvre Museum and, because of this and its amenities, it is one of the best rated hotels on Booking and TripAdvisor.

However, it is well located. in Paris, one of the most touristy cities in the world, has its price.Even so, it is important to consider that the hotel is small, compact and some people complain that the breakfast is below expectations.

Important Tip: In France, breakfast is paid for. aside, you will hardly find a hotel with breakfast included in the daily rate. What may initially be bad, actually gives you the freedom to, if you prefer, save even more by having breakfast in a place of your choice (or even in your own room).

On one of our trips, we opted for a cheaper hotel. The location was not very good, but it was good value for money. The Timhotel Nation was a choice to save a lot, but since then the price has increased and we already think it’s not worth it.The hotel is not close to the main tourist attractions, but it is close to the subway.

Anyway, think carefully about the location.Choosing the hotel and which neighborhood to stay in can mean a completely different experience on your trip.Hotel is not just for sleeping. But if you want to save money, lower your expectations.

As you move to another neighborhood, the price increases.Staying in the charming Marais district, for example, which was one of our plans on the 2010 trip, was more expensive. It’s quite difficult to find a hotel there for less than €100. We found a hotel in this lower limit.

The Hotel Bastille de Launay is not in the heart of the Marais, but a short walk from the neighbourhood. It is highly rated on TripAdvisor and was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in 2014.

Despite the good reviews on TripAdvisor, we are very critical of accommodation and have our reservations. As we were on the first floor, facing the street, the noise and movement took some privacy when we opened the window. The room is small, and there is practically only space for the bed.

On the other hand, the good location and the comfort of the facilities were worth the investment.Breakfast had a good variety, but replenishment took a little time.

I’ve always had my reservations about the Montmartre neighborhood, due to the street where the Moulin Rouge is, full of hells.1 block from the Abbesses is located the Grand Hotel de Clermont. The location is perfect, close to several tourist attractions in the neighborhood and also to local shops, which include great restaurants, grocery stores, supermarkets and 3 subway stations.

The hotel does not have an elevator and at first it was the initial shock of climbing 3 flights of stairs carrying a suitcase. But when we got to the room, it was worth it.The room was very clean, spacious and airy.Everything worked well: hot shower, fast WiFi, quiet (be careful, we took a room at the back of the hotel, reviews complain about the noise from the bar at the front).

But because of this In the absence of an elevator, we recommend the Hotel The Originals Paris Montmartre Apolonia. The only downside is that this hotel is farther from the center of Montmartre and the Amélie Poulain café.
