São Paulo’s LGBT Pride Parade 2018: check the schedule

One of the biggest events on the calendar in the city of São Paulo, the 2018 LGBT Pride Parade has a defined date and theme.

The São Paulo LGBT Pride Parade Paulo is the most important event on Brazil’s LGBT calendar.Perhaps one of the most important in the world.

By the number of people (in 2017 there were 3 million people), the São Paulo Parade is considered the largest gay pride in the world.

The theme of the 2017 Parade was the defense of the Secular State, a topic of extreme importance when LGBT agendas and rights are barred in Congress because of religious issues. For 2018, NGO APOGLBT SP (Association of the Pride Parade of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals and Transgenders of São Paulo) has already defined the theme.

Check out a little more about the 2018 LGBT Parade below.

SP LGBT Parade will be held on June 3 with the theme Elections and will feature Anitta and Pablo Vitta

The date for the 22nd Edition of the São Paulo Pride Parade has already been set.

The biggest event on the LGBT calendar in Brazil takes place on June 3, 2018, Sunday of the Corpus Christi holiday.

The gathering takes place, as usual, from from 10 am in front of MASP, on Avenida Paulista. The godmother will again be Fernanda Lima and the official presenter is Drag Queen Tchaka.

The event is an initiative of the NGO APOGLBT SP(Association of the Pride Parade of Gays, Lesbians , Bisexuals and Transgenders of São Paulo). The NGO has been organizing the parade for over 20 years.

One of the novelties this year is the change in the acronym. The well-known acronym LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) gains the I (which stands for Intersex) and a + sign (which stands for other identities).

Note:Due to the trucks strike, many people are wondering if there will be a Parade on that date.Even the trios are stocked up and ready for the big day.

2018 LGBT Parade Theme: Elections

The 2018 Parade theme definition, however, This is nothing new.

If in 2017 the theme was the defense of the Secular State, in 2018 the LGBT Parade once again addresses a political issue. In an election year, how can we leave this issue out?

The slogan of the 2018 parade is “Power to LGBTI+, Our Vote, Our Voice.”

“In the National Congress, of the 581 parliamentarians, we have only one openly homosexual deputy who defends the colors of our flag.Unfortunately, there are still few heterosexual and cisgender allied politicians who embrace the LGBTI+ agenda, for more human rights and citizenship, in their speeches and political platforms. It is sad to recognize that the underrepresentation of LGBTI politicians and allies, committed to our agendas, is repeated in other legislative houses in the country.”highlights the manifesto developed by APOGLBT SP to justify the choice and relevance of the topic.

The manifesto also recalls that the fight for rights for the LGBT community has never been so difficult. The current Congress is considered the most conservative since 1964. The attempt to legalize “gay cure” therapies, the “family statute” (which disregards family models with LGBT people) and the “non-party school” bill ( that can prohibit discussion of gender and sexuality in schools) are just some of the threats to the LGBT community.

The fight is for the election of candidates who represent us, whether they are LGBTI+ or not.

São Paulo’s LGBT Parade Press Conference had government representatives and sponsors. Both mentioned the choice of the theme for the 2018 LGBT Parade. “Voting is extremely important, not only for LGBT causes, but for all progressive causes”, recalled Claudia.

Márcio Fernando Elias Rosa, Secretary of Justice and Defense of Citizenship, was also present representing the Government of the State of São Paulo.Márcio also reinforced the importance of the elections, at a time that reflects a “pendular movement of resurgence and threat to conquered rights. The movement increases if it finds no opposition from those who think otherwise”.Márcio also recalled that “democracy is not the will of the majority, but respect for minorities.”

Another representative of the political spheres was Eloísa de Sousa Arruda, Secretary for Human Rights at the City Hall of Sao Paulo. She corroborated the other representatives of the table, noting that “the more conservative a society is, the farther it will be from human rights”.She also recalled the political carelessness in the US, with the election of Donald Trump.“We cannot let this happen in our country”, reinforced Eloísa.

The 22nd São Paulo Pride Parade has two major and main sponsors in 2018: Skoland Uber, who are repeating the partnership for the third consecutive year. The co-sponsorship is from Burger Kingand Doritos Rainbow.among other supporters.

“We are honored to support the LGBT Pride Parade for the third year in a row.We believe that, as a great brand, our role in society is also to encourage more and more people, consumers or not, to join forces and empathize with the cause”, says Daniel Feitoza, marketing manager at SKOL.“The renewal of our partnership with Parada consolidates the path we have chosen to follow in recent years, the path of respect for everyone and everyone”, he added.

One of Skol’s new initiatives was campaign #MarcasAlias.Under the umbrella of the Marcas Aliadas, they have already joined forces with Burger King, Bis Lacta, Trident and Quem Disse, Berenice? The initiative is to attract more brands to support the LGBT movement.

“Respect and support for diversity are in Uber’s DNA.Globally, 30 percent of our workforce is voluntarily engaged in projects to make the company more diverse and inclusive.Supporting the São Paulo LGBTQ+ Pride Parade and the other 14 that will take place in the country, between June and November, is to represent this engagement and add our voice to that of those who ask for respect, inclusion and representation”, said Ana Pellegrini, Legal Director of Uber Brasiland Southern Cone and Diversity Leader for Latin America.

Ana Pellegrini was unable to attend the press conference, but Fábio Sabba, Uber’s Communications Director Brazil, was representing the brand. He also pointed out that the company develops a strong orientation campaign among its drivers, distributing booklets on best practices of respect for the LGBT community.Upon any report of homophobia, an Uber driver is immediately blocked on the platform.

Another initiative by Uber was to hold an open conversation with members of the LGBTQ+ community, such as singer Liniker;the teacher and diversity consultant Ana Castanha;the founder of the NGO Casa 1, Iran Giusti;youtubers Danilo Dabague (creator of drag queen Lorelay Fox), Jessica Tauane (Canal das Bee) and Pedro HMC (Põe na Roda), among others.Check out the video with some moments of the conversation.
