What to know before going

if you need Amalfi Coast tipsat Italy, to organize your trip there, you are in the right place. In this post, we are going to talk about the details of the destination and answer questions that we asked ourselves while we were putting together our itinerary.

Is it easy to get there? Is it an expensive destination? Do I need to rent a car? These are just some of the Amalfi Coast tips that we will give in this post. Check out!

Let’s finally go to the Amalfi Coast tips. There are a few ways to get there. The nearest airport is Naples. If you want, you can rent a car in the city and drive there. Another option is to take the train that goes to Sorrento. From there, you can take a bus that takes you to other cities on the Amalfi Coast.

You can also take the bus from Naples and also by boat. We did another post with all the tips on how to get there.

The Amalfi Coast not one of the cheapest destinations in Italy, but it is possible to travel there without leaving a kidney. The tip is to research the hotel a lot before closing. For those who want to save money, it is worth staying in Sorrentofor example, which is a city that is close to Positano (see some hotels with discounts of up to 50%).

To get an idea, I will quote some prices that were checked by us in June 2018. THE all-day bus ticket costs 10 euros. It is possible to find glasses of wine for 4 or 5 euros and Aperol Spritz for 9 euros in restaurants and bars with views. When it’s time to eat, you can find individual pizzas (which depending on what you can share with someone else) for less than 10 euros. already the pasta dishes cost between 13 and 20 euros. It’s also good to eat good sandwiches for less than 4 euros.

For more details about prices, it is worth seeing this other post that we made very detailed.

The main cities on the Amalfi Coast are Positano, beachy, amalfi, Ravello, Major and Minori.

These are one of the Amalfi Coast tips worth paying attention to. Although one city is very close to the other, the roads are very winding. Cars and buses need to go very slowly and it is not uncommon for a stretch to be closed for a period due to an accident. You can travel by boat between them too, but it is a little more expensive.

It is not mandatory to rent a car, as there are buses and boats. We were determined to rent a car, but after a lot of research we ended up giving up because of the road, which is really difficult and requires a lot of attention and skill from the driver. We don’t regret it, but next time we’ll try to find another way to do the tours, even if it’s with agencies. This time we just used the bus, which was not so good. I will tell more in the next topic.

For those who think that renting a car is the best solution, a good tip is to RentCarswhich compares the prices of several rental companies and you can pay in reais, in addition to paying in installments (make your quote).

Another one of the Amalfi Coast tips that is very important. As I said, yes, It is possible to take the bus routes, but you need to have a lot of patienceespecially in high season.

Brazilians are forced to take out travel insurance in most European countries. In addition to may be required at immigration, with it you can travel with peace of mind in the event of unforeseen health problems, delays or flight cancellations. Rafa has already fractured his spine abroad and had to be transferred by helicopter. Can you imagine how much it would cost if he didn’t have insurance? We suggest that you do the quote on the website of Seguros Promowhich is a search engine to find the best price. Use the coupon ESSEMUNDOENOSSO5 and get a 5% discount, which can reach 10% if you pay by bank slip.

As we stayed in Sorrento, where the buses leave, getting on was very easy. From Sorrento to Positano it takes less than 1h to travel. The real problem was the turn around. There was always a line and there were few buses available.. If we lost one, we would have to wait a long time for the next one to pass.

Furthermore, we suffered a lot there with the lack of education and sense of queue of the Europeans. When the bus arrived, a lot of people appeared out of nowhere and wanted to get ahead of us. We had to fight a lot.

From Amalfi to Positano by bus it took more than 2h. It was at 1am that we were in line waiting to get out. Anyway, we felt safer that way than by car. Unfortunately, there was no time to try the boat trip. Just going from Sorrento to Capri, which was very quiet. We made a post telling all our experience riding the bus there.

Not all cities on the Amalfi Coast have a beach. In any case, the beauty of the Amalfi Coast is in the ensemble that mixes nature, houses, charming streets, cliffs and, of course, beaches. Positano and Amalfi are two of the most famous cities with beautiful well as the Fiordo di Furorewhich is close to Amalfi and became known on Instagram as one of the most beautiful beaches in the region (see in our post about there).

Nonetheless, Ravello, which is also very well known, does not have beaches, but it has an incredible view, as it is high up. In addition, the city itself is very charming and beautiful.

+ Find discount city hotels

This is another one of the Amalfi Coast tips worth reading carefully. Accommodation will depend a lot on the type of trip you want to do.. If it is more economical and if you want to use the bus, sorrento (find discount city hotels) is a good option, since the city has a good structure and is close to Positano, in addition to having a very lively center. If you want to stay right on the Amalfi Coast, Positano (find discount city hotels) and amalfi (find discount city hotels) are good options. However, the daily rate in this region is higher.

It is important to keep in mind that Positano, for example, is a city with many climbs. Then, if you have a stroller, it might not be a good option. Also, it is important to check with the hotel if they will at any point meet you to take your bags.

We did another post talking about each city and explaining what it’s like to stay in them.

Although Capri is not part of the Amalfi Coast, most people include the island in their itinerary. Capri is very close to Sorrento and you can get there by boat that takes about 30 minutes..

Tips from the Amalfi Coast (Photo: This World is Ours)

We only spent one day in Capri, but for sure next time I’ll sleep at least one night. I loved the island. The beach is beautiful and the streets are very charming.

+ Find your hotel in the region at a discount

For those who will only stay one day, there is a lot to do: a tour of the Blue Grotto, the Garden of Augustus, the Piazzetta and Via Camerelle, as well as Anacapri which is also beautiful and serves as an option for accommodation (see discount hotels).

We made a post telling you all about Capri.

We chose to stay in Sorrento because the hotels are cheaper than on the Amalfi Coast itself. and also because the city has a lot of structure both during the day and at night. Besides, of course, being the starting point for the bus and also where the train from Naples arrives.

We stayed at Pousada La Ferrovia, which is close to the train station (the region is great) and also to the city center. We really liked the room and the service of the inn (see the discounted rate).

+ Find your hotel in the city with discounts of up to 50%

This is one of the tips on the Amalfi Coast, but it works for the whole of Italy. To travel to the country and also to most European countries, travel insurance is mandatory. Even if it wasn’t, it would be very important to take out insurance, as we never know when we will need it.

Our suggestion is Promo insurance, a website that works as an insurance comparator. In it, just put the period and destination of your trip and compare the ones you think have the most to do with your profile. Enjoy and use the code THISWORLDANDOURSELF5 to have a 5% discount on the total value of the insurance. Enjoy and make your quote now.
