Where to stay in Penedo (RJ): my experience at Pousada Santa Fé

I recently discovered another place that had been on my list for a long time: Penedo, in Rio de Janeiro, district of the mountain town of Itatiaia and known as Little Finland, due to its colonization. Charming that only!!!

After a few days of many tours and adventures in the Northeast, all I wanted was to rest a few days in a quiet place. It was the right choice. I partnered with Pousada Santa Fé and spent three days enjoying the calm of the mountain region.

Accommodation in Penedo

Pousada Santa Fé is 2 km from the center of Penedo, in the middle of Serra da Mantiqueira. For those who, like me, go by bus, from the final disembarkation point, in front of Padaria Panepão, there are several taxis and a fare is R$ 20.00. But it’s always good to ask the driver the value – on other days, when I went to the Center or came back, I paid R$15.00 and R$10.00.

There are direct buses from Rio de Janeiro at three times (both to go and back), but it is also possible to go to Resende and, from there, take a regular bus that takes just a few minutes. For those traveling by car, the inn has parking.

The location of the inn is super quiet, silent, ideal for moments of peace. Sleep in silence, wake up happy, oh my, how I needed this!

During the day, the best option was to relax by the pool, which is one of the main attractions. It is located in a space with several tables, chairs and umbrellas and has an incredible view of the mountains. No matter how many pictures I took, I always wanted to take more – and still strike a pose. ahahah There’s no way not to surrender to this look.

Next to the pool, in the smaller, round part, there is a whirlpool. In another very large space, there is a games room with a pool table, foosball, playing cards and others, in addition to a television.

And, right next door, the living room with fireplace, which seemed super cozy – to use it, just ask at reception. I got hot days, but in the winter months it must be a great option to warm up.

I loved my room! A beautiful decoration, all rustic, everything arranged in the greatest whim and affection. It had a super comfortable double bed and another single bed, a beautiful table with two chairs that I was dying to have one like this, fridge, TV, large mirror on the wall and space to put suitcases and hang clothes. There was even a hair dryer in the bathroom!

And as my room was on the same floor as the leisure area, the door already opened directly onto the pool area. It had a small balcony with two chairs and a big window with a view of the area and the mountains in the background.

Just think, wake up, open the door and face it all! I was lucky to get days with great weather – it only rained on the first one, then it was just sunshine and joy!

Breakfast and meals

Coffee is served from 8:30 am – that is, no rush to wake up early! There are many options (really!), I was even lost among so many delights!!! There were several cakes (saudades, dulce de leche rolls), breads and cheese bread, spreads, jams, cheeses, ham, fruits… In addition to coffee, milk, chocolate and juices of various flavors! All on the biggest whim! And they even make scrambled eggs on time for anyone who wants to. The kitchen girls are adorable!

The Pousada also serves meals (not included in the daily rate) that can be ordered in the room. There are sandwiches, soups, pasta, among other options. If it’s out of hours – as was my case, I arrived without lunch when the restaurant was already closed – or if you want a different menu, you can order at other restaurants and pizzerias, just talk to reception and they’ll call and transfer you to the fourth.

In fact, a highlight for all the staff, who since my arrival and throughout my stay, were super helpful and friendly. The manager, Guaraci, whom I spoke with via email when I was planning my trip, was also great! First class service that makes all the difference.

Another thing I thought was really cool was knowing that the inn is focused on sustainability and has 60% of the garbage collected selectively. In addition, a rainwater collection system for use in outdoor areas and gardens is already being implemented.
